Congrats to our Transformation Tuesday star, Deborah!

How long have you been coming to Nutrish Mish? What made you start? 

I started in December 2017 about 1.5 years after my last baby.  I started because I realized that I needed help.  I thought I had been doing the best that I could, but was getting nowhere losing the last few pounds of ‘baby weight’

What has been the biggest transformation you have seen in yourself (mindset wise, habit wise, etc)?

In the beginning it was habits- I started noticing the stupid calories that I was eating- a chicken nugget here, a handful of goldfish there.  I realized that I don’t have to be a “garbage disposal” for the food that my kids didn’t finish.  After I started to only eat my own food, it took a long time to realize that I didn’t need a daily indulgence, or that I could eventually modify the indulgence so it didn’t even count as one- like if I needed a chocolate fix, I could have a protein shake instead of actual chocolate candy.

I guess I thought that my diet was good enough before.  My meals were relatively healthy, and I didn’t over-indulge.  I have realized that although I had a relatively healthy diet, I still enjoyed my indulgences.  As time has moved on, I have been able to cut these back significantly, and I no longer feel deprived.  I have never been good at budgeting- either financial, or with my indulgences, but I have made the most improvement in this aspect.  I now look forward to planning my indulgences for the week, and I find it much easier to delay them, and enjoy them more without any guilt when I do indulge.

What made this time different then other times you have tried to get healthier or lose weight?

It was definitely a slower process.  But, because of that, they were smaller changes made over time which have been much easier to maintain.

What advice would you have for someone just starting with Nutrish Mish?

Give yourself time.  Depending on where you are starting, you may or may not see results right away.  I lost a few pounds up front just from journaling and cutting out the dumb calories I was eating.  I plateaued for so long I nearly quit.  But then I had a chance to really take control and be more committed and that’s when I truly saw results, and now I feel like my mindset has completely changed.  This really isn’t a diet, it is a total change in mindset and behavior, but you need to be patient!
