Food Dyes: Making Our Kid's Blue
Having a colorful plate is always a good choice, right? Wrong! Artificial colorings are having a serious impact on our health. Recent studies have shown that we need to steer clear of artificial food colorings and their harmful effects, especially when it comes to our children. These food colorings are used in a number of products including juices, cereals, ice cream, mac and cheese, Lunchables, even Flinstone’s Complete Vitamins! Red Dye #40 and Yellow #5 are of particular concern linked to hyperactivity, and other behavioral disorders. Children who consume these dyes have even scored lower on a variety of tests compared to children who do not. These dyes are actually banned in many other countries, so why are they allowed here? Get informed, check your labels and demand them out of your foods!
Blue: Linked to chromosomal damage and brain tumors. The colorings Blue #1 and #2 have been banned in France, Finland, and Norway. They must be on to something!
Green: Green is usually a go-to when eating healthy- but when your beverage, candy, ice cream, or cosmetic products are green you could increase your risk for bladder tumors.
Red: If you’re seeing red, it could be because you’re consuming red. Believe it or not, red food dyes have been linked to aggressive behavior. On top of that, lymphomas, chromosomal damage, thyroid tumors, and hyperactivity in children have been associated with this food coloring.
Yellow: Yellow coloring takes the cake when comparing harmful effects. This food dye (more like die) comes with the light baggage of chromosomal damage, hyperactivity, allergies, asthma, thyroid tumors, lymphoma, aggressive behavior, insomnia, skin problems such as eczema…should we go on?
