They seem healthy enough, but in the back of our heads we can't help but wonder if these colorful bowls are all they are cracked up to be.

First off what is an acai and how do I pronounce it so I sound like I know what I am talking about?

An Acai Berry is an antioxidant powerhouse that is grown primarily in the amazon, pronounced ah-sa-EE. Here is the thing, the berry is highly perishable so you will find it in the United States primarily in powder form, so far, so good! Because it is in a powder form, it is mixed into other seemly healthy foods to create delightfully purple the acai bowl.

Here is the problem: the bowls pack a TON of sugar, natural sugar, but too much to have at one time. Between the variety of fruits, juices, yogurts, and honey they can pack anywhere from 50-90g of sugar! To give you an idea, a can of soda has about 39g. But don't worry! You can make your own at home!
